Greetings Sibling in Christ,

I’m writing to let you know that the Board of Pensions has updated Living by the Gospel. The Board introduced the document in 2018 as a guide to structuring calls for ministers. We have found that it helps church employers in considering scriptural guidance on supporting those whom God has called to serve. A Theology of Benefits, the theologically based foundation of our work at the Board, is included in Living by the Gospel.

Living by the Gospel also provides data on benefits trends. The data can help employers see how they are doing compared with other employers of similar size and membership. The updated data continues to show an overall need within our community of faith to provide benefits in a just and supportive way.

Please take a moment to review Living by the Gospel. You will see how the benefits packages, Pastor’s Participation and Minister’s Choice, work with our assistance and education programs to support the well-being of ministers so they may live fully into their calls. And you will find details on our dues incentive programs, which provide assistance to employers so more ministers might receive coverage in the Benefits Plan of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

I encourage you to reach out to me if you have questions.

In peace,

Rev. Dr. Carrie Mitchell
