Treasurer’s Roles & Responsibilities
The treasurer serves ex officio on the Board of Trustees so without vote. The treasurer is an officer and a member of the Presbytery with voice and vote at Presbytery meetings.
Responsibilities (from the Treasurer Job Description)
Oversee and assure the accuracy of all financial records of the Presbytery. This includes overseeing the work of the Presbytery bookkeeper.
Initiate payment of funds of Presbytery upon presentation of appropriate authorization. Spending Approval Process and Payment request form
Present and interpret the financial status monthly, covering: revenue, expenses and balance sheet. Present special reports as requested. (Included in monthly report to Trustees.)
Report the status of per capita payments from churches and general mission payments at least quarterly. (Included in monthly report to Trustees. Plus a single Presbytery summary sent to all Pastors, Clerks of Session, and Treasurers 4 times per year.)
Present financial overview and answer questions at the annual financial review or audit.
Work with the Administrative Team, staff, and contracted controllers to compile an annual budget and present it to the Trustees at a regular meeting.
Make recommendations to Trustees on how to improve fiscal management and serve as a resource to interpret the finances. (email and monthly reports, answers to questions)
Assure compliance with all duly adopted policies impacting financial matters including any restrictions on funds, investment policies, etc. (Treasurer carries out Investment Policy once established.)
Assure compliance with current accepted accounting principles.
